Tell Town Council: We need an independent traffic study! According to the traffic study submitted for the South Main project, the development will generate 20,000 new car trips per day! Yet the study finds that all of this traffic can be accomodated by just adding some turning lanes and two new traffic signals on Main St. Our examination of the various versions submitted have turned up numerous errors and discrepencies, all having the effect of reducing the estimated traffic impacts. It's no wonder, the traffic study was paid for by Fairmount Properties. And it was conducted by Anderson & Associates, a firm that has a serious conflict of interest, since it stands to get more contracts if the project goes forward. BURG has sent a letter to town council, requesting an independent traffic study. Please write to town council, and tell them that we can only assess the real impact of this project if we have a truly independent traffic study. See how other communities have challenged developers' traffic studies. |

| Our initial fundraising goal has been met! Many thanks to all those who contributed. The funds we've raised so far have allowed us to pursue the legal case until now. But, in order to see our appeal through, we will need at least another $10,000. Here's the idea: The South Main development will hit us where we live, in property values, traffic, noise, and of course the character of our town. So we are looking for 100 households willing to donate just $100 each. We're starting with those who live closest to the project, and with you, our core membership. The 100 households will be listed on our website (unless you choose to remain anonymous). Visit our donations page for information on how to contribute. |
